Tropical Sun by Emil Nolde
The German artist, Emil Nolde was considered one for the power expressionist of his time. Although he is better known for his watercolor paintings, he also well verse in oil painting. Tropical Sun is one of his many oil paintings. It was done in 1914 on canvas. I like Tropical Sun mostly for its use of vibrant colors. The different shades of blue and purple bring the water to life while the deep reds and oranges depict the setting sun beautifully. I find it interest how he uses the same shade of purple for both the water and the clouds. This really brings the painting together as a whole. Without this connection, the painting might have looked like just a splash for crazy colors with no real structure.
