"Rockets and Blue Lights" was done by J.M.W Turner. It was completed in 1840. This piece is oil on canvas. Turner was an artist of the Romantic period, and he loved to examine nature as closely as a scientist might. What is most striking about this piece is how the shapes and colors seem to whip together. The way that the explosion is reflected is eye capturing.
