This is the alter ego or Da Da enthusiast, Marcel Duchamp. The name he chose was interesting. It was a pun to the phrase in French, "'est la vie" which means "that's life" I think this was interesting because that seemed to be the idea behind the Dada art movement. They were weird and wanted it to be a "whatever" attitude towards everything especially during the war. I think I just don't understand why they would focus the attention on such odd pieces of work that don't necessarily make sense unless explained.
