This Oil on Board (1961) painting done by Josef Albers is one of a series named Homage to the Square. His series began in 1949, and he is most remembered for these works. Each of the paintings in the series is the same generic format, with three or four squares, each a different color. Personally, I think dedicating nearly 10 years of one's career to the same figure but different colors is a bit elementary. This painting does nothing for me.
