This painting was painted by Vincent Van Gogh in 1809. Van Gogh wrote in a letter to his brother that cypressed were always occupying his thoughts and that he found them beautiful of line. He painted a nighttime view of the trees while he was staying in Arles. I like the short bold brushstrokes and colors and that you can tell it is night time but the painting still glows from the moonlight.
